Join us in Amsterdam as we welcome a true legend of African music, the father of Ethiopian-Jazz, Mulatu Astakte. This renowned musician honed his talent at institutions in different parts of the world and was the first African student at the Berklee College of Music. He was a part of the golden era of Ethiopian jazz in the 1970s and, throughout his career, shared the stage with such greats as Duke Ellington. His music still inspires many big names in music today, such as Nas, Damian Marley, and Kanye West.

During Part 1 of this program, Mulatu will reflect on ‘The Contribution of Africa’s Culture to the World’. The lecture will be moderated by Dr. Anika Altaf, who has over a decade of experience in the field of international development with a strong focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and South-Asia.
